Edwin George Ward and Augusta Bassingwhite







Edwin George Ward and Augusta Bassingwhite were married at the church of St John the Baptist in Croydon, Surrey, England on Christmas day 1849.

The parish record of their marriage includes the original signatures of Augusta, Edwin, and their witnesses.

As recorded in the parish register, Edwin George Ward was 23 years old and living in Tottenham, Middlesex at the time of his marriage. The document also notes that Edwin is a bachelor and that he and his father, George Ward, are both grocers.






Augusta Bassingwhite is  a spinster, which at that time meant that she had not been previously married. Augusta was 22 years old and living in Croydon when she was married. William Bassingwhite, Augusta’s father, is listed as a lighterman by profession.
